Mission & Context The client is an anonymized tech company operating in a highly regulated space (requiring HIPAA/SOC2 compliance). They are hiring a Head of Infrastructure to own, secure, and scale their entire multi-cloud infrastructure stack. This is a hands-on, Director-level individual contributor role designed for a builder who will define technical standards without acting as a people manager. Ideal candidate A highly technical, hands-on infrastructure leader (Staff/Principal/Director IC archetype) based in Latin America, North America, or Europe, with a strong preference for LatAm tech hubs (São Paulo, Bogotá, Mexico City). They possess deep expertise in Kubernetes, AWS, GCP, and Pulumi. Culturally, they have intense 'builder energy,' take extreme ownership of production systems, and prefer shipping ambitiously over purely managing existing problems. Required • Hands-on experience building and running production infrastructure in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC2, GDPR, or similar). • Deep production expertise with Kubernetes and multi-cloud architectures (specifically AWS and GCP). • Proven track record of implementing Infrastructure as Code (Pulumi or Terraform) and observability/incident response systems. • Current or very recent experience as an Individual Contributor (IC) rather than a pure people manager. Dealbreakers • Pure people-management background with no recent hands-on technical IC work (e.g., writing IaC, debugging incidents). • Lack of experience operating in regulated environments (HIPAA, SOC2, GDPR). Lean toward • Based in Latin America (specifically São Paulo, Bogotá, Mexico City, Buenos Aires, or Chile). • Hands-on production experience with graph databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) and document storage (Firestore, MongoDB). • Experience providing technical leadership to backend engineers building infra-adjacent systems. • History of proactive problem-solving, such as auditing products and flagging critical issues independently. Prefer to avoid • Recent roles focused heavily on people management or director-level administration rather than hands-on engineering.
